1 Advanced Algebra II Notes 5.4 Applications of Exponential and Power Equations Patricia wants to invest $500 in a savings account so that its doubling time will be 8 years. What annual percentage rate is necessary for this to happen? (Interest on the account is compounded annually).

2 A pendulum, which is swinging toward and away from a motion detector, is slowly coming to equilibrium. The motion detector measures how far the pendulum swings from the detector. A table is made to record the greatest distance for every tenth swing. At rest, the pendulum hangs 1.25 m from the motion detector. Find an equation that models the data in the table. (next year in Advanced Precalculus we will study this as a damped sine curve). Swing Number x 0102030405060 Greatest Distance Y 2.351.971.701.531.421.361.32
