Definition of Music Therapy Music therapy is a clinical and research-based creative process to accomplish individualized goals in the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual self in areas such as; independence, freedom to change, adaptability, balance and integration; within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. (Based on the definition of music therapy in the Joint Declaration of the 1982 International Symposium of Music Therapists and American Music Therapy Association)

Main Topics Discussed in “Imagine” Nutopia: The Country of Peace John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono created this concept of a perfect world without religion, government, no land boundaries, and no set rules. Basically the people would govern themselves through personal morality.

Coloration to Us What is going on in the world today that compares to the Progressive movement of the 60s? Would this concept of a perfect, peaceful world still be able to be created today? What can we modify or add to John Lennon’s belief? Or should it just be opposed all together?

Let’s create our own verse… Must have 6 lines With the 2 nd and 4 th lines rhyming Thoughts for an opening line?

Wrap Up! This was an example of a social interaction within a group through the use of music therapy. Finale gave the therapist the ability to create and share the work that the group of clients participated in. This verse the class wrote can be added to the score and printed. The documentation can help in later sessions and in research use.
