2 About endangered species
Endangered animals are species that are at a risk of disappearing from the Earth. Many species of animals and plants have been made extinct by human activities. Many species around the world are going extinct before they have even been discovered. Did you know? There are more than 1,000 animal species endangered all over the world. 28,270 animal species of mammals are threatened by the harms done to the planet. Endangered animals are species that are at a risk of disappearing from the Earth. Many species of animals and plants have been made extinct by humans. The current rate of extinction is thought to be far greater than the expected natural rate, with many species going extinct before they have even been discovered. Human activities will continue to wipe out species all over the world unless we do something about it. But we can’t simply do it all ourselves; we need your help in supporting us to help save these beautiful endangered species and make sure they will still be here in many years to come. Some shocking facts show just how much human activities like hunting, deforestation and the burning of fossils for fuel can harm the environment; There are more than 1,000 animal species endangered all over the world and 28,270 animal species of mammals are threatened by the harms done to the planet. 3 Threats to endangered species
Habitat destruction and pollution Climate change Hunting, poaching and fishing Predators - Humans have destroyed more than half of the forests on Earth, and habitat loss is one of the most important threats to endangered species because all animals need space to live, eat and reproduce. - Pollution due to the burning of fossil fuels, as well as oil, gas and human waste, e.g. landfill sites can seriously harm the environment. Animals that live in oceans, rivers and near factories are particularly in danger. - Global warming is another serious threat to animals around the world because many species are especially adapted to live in a colder climate, and an increase in worldwide temperatures means that they can no longer live in their habitat. Global warming can also cause droughts or wildfires, meaning that many animals’ habitats can no longer provide for them. Hunting, fishing or poaching animals for their fur, horns or meat for our own human uses can cause many species to go extinct when it is done too much. For example rhinos and cheetahs are now endangered due to humans using their fur and horns for our own use. Lastly, predators of some endangered prey can cause them to become endangered due to lack of resources for food. This is one of the few threats that is not the cause of human activities.
