2 Through your classes today, do the following:

3 Centre 1 - WRITING  Draft your Zoo Field Trip Newspaper Article – keep your drafts for your portfolio  Using Microsoft Publisher (on PC) or a Word Template (on MAC), type a good copy of your article. Include pictures, captions for the pictures and your byline (aka: your name)  Remember to HAND IT IN!!

4 CENTRE 2 - READING  Read the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” online. The pdf link is on the common drive under “Students; Humanities 9”. If needed, there are a FEW paper copies you can SHARE!!  With a partner, create a vocabulary list of 10-15 words for the story based on words you don’t know.  Write a short summary of the story with your partner – this can be done in point form.

6 Centre 2: Shadow of Imprisonment  Just as Jane is trapped in her room in “The Yellow Wallpaper”, so to are people throughout Canada “trapped” in certain social conditions  How is Jane’s psychological conflict similar and/or different from the barber in “Lather and Nothing Else”?

7 Centre 2: Quotation Analysis  How many of us “project” our psychological conflict onto the world around us?  Can you think of an example?

10 Centre 3: Discuss the Excerpt  What is the significance of changing “Jane’s” name to “Charlotte”?  Is there something symbolic in the fact that she crawls over John?  Adaptation successful? Why or why not?

11 Tearing Down the Wallpaper Part 1: Compare + Contrast Part 2: Research + Analyze Further  Create at trifold bulletin board display that illustrates the similarities and differences between the social issues identified in: “Lather and Nothing Else” “The Yellow Wallpaper” A researched contemporary social issue in Canadian Society  Research a relevant contemporary issue. Consider the following terms to guide your research: Issue, opinion, criteria, unbiased, perspective, point of view, quality of life, rights, society, govern, governance, government

12 Tearing Down the Wallpaper Part 3: Canadian Law + Tying it All Into Reality Part 4: Preparing for a Conference Presentation  On each section of the trifold, discuss how the executive branch of Canada’s government should react. What is the executive branch’s role in dealing with laws and governance? How does the Legislative branch also contribute?  Your Trifold will be presented to a group of staff and students. You must present a small speech on its content and be prepared to answer questions related to the social issues you have brought up. Consider: Length: 2 – 2:30 max Possible Questions Presentation dress and trifold attractiveness
