Unit 1 – Improving Productivity Instructions ~ 100 words per box
1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? The other resources I could of made loads of posters or hand made leaflets but I used a computer because my handwriting isn’t that neat it also looks messy and big but with the computer I can choose what style of writing and how big I want it and also the colour, the computer also helps me with my spelling because it tells me if I have spelt anything wrong, if its close to the spelling it will auto-correct if not I can right click on the mouse whilst the arrow hovers over it and it will come up with a list or a few options that I might be but sometimes it will come up with other options.
1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? You need skills to use PowerPoint because when you log on to your computer and you click on PowerPoint and you make a new PowerPoint and you need a shape or something and use different texts, and you use hyperlinks, and word art for titles. You can also use the tools on PowerPoint such as word art for titles. Copy and paste pictures Access internet Change the colours of the backgrounds on font Rotate the pictures I learnt these in year 8 when Mr Rathbone shown me what to do and from now I know what to do when I do a presentation.
1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? The resources I used was the internet because it has a wide range of things to use like images and useful and accurate information I also used the smiths wood website that gave me facts and good information my images came from google there are also images from the shared folder. I needed access to the computer and the software that’s on it now. If smiths wood didn’t have a website then the presentation will be basic and less information. Copy and paste How to change the background colour How to put videos and sound onto my PowerPoint How to rotate How to crop
1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) If I wasn’t in school/college my attendance would affect my work because I wont know anything about the software. A positive factor is that I have been in all the lessons but I have not listened to the teacher every lesson because some lessons I get distracted. I know things about the software so that’s a positive thing. I already knew how to use PowerPoint so it was easier for me to do because I already knew how to use PowerPoint and I know where the tools are so I can make the PowerPoint better.
1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? I used PowerPoint to make my presentation because PowerPoint is easy to use and it has loads of tools and things to use on PowerPoint to help you make your presentation look better. The other software's that were available was word, publisher and excel, I didn’t use them other software's because they don’t present the presentation as well as PowerPoint does and PowerPoint has loads of different tools and features that will help you make your presentation even better than it is. The reason why I used PowerPoint is because the style of the software was more free and was able to add different things each time. Word was available but PowerPoint was better because there was more interaction and young people would be more interested because there's movement on the screen.
2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? The tools that are appropriate for PowerPoint are really good such as animations which makes your words or pictures come in separately instead of it all being on one page at once, there's designs for your presentation that makes your presentation more interesting and colourful instead of looking boring and dull. You can also add shapes, text boxes, change the colour of the text, change the size of the text and insert pictures. All these things can change your presentation to make it look good and so when you present your presentation people will think its interesting because you’ve used the tools such as animations and changed the colour of your text.
1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP) Legal constraints is not negative because if I need a picture then I have to email the person who put the picture on the internet because if you just copy it off the internet then that’s illegal and you can get arrested for copyrighting, but if they don’t reply to there email or they say no then you can’t use that picture. I could have use videos of youtube but school blocked website and on the website some are copyrighted the videos. I made sure I was aloud to use any videos and photos from school, the year 6’s would of liked it more because it had got loads of pictures in it. I chose a video that was small because I knew the bigger one wouldn’t of fit and if I had more space it would have been a better quality
2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? The next time I do a presentation I am going to improve to make the presentation more presentable by tiding it up and making it look even more interesting by adding more colour and pictures. Also I'm going to use more of the tools on PowerPoint that can help me improve my presentation and it will show people that I know how to use PowerPoint in the correct way by using most of the tools. Just put a little bit more effort into it. I could have put more interesting information about the school and make it sound exciting, I could of put better photos and some recent photos. I should of took my own photos of the school and made them look better and added more information and put more effort into the PowerPoint I made.
3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? (keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning) The improvements I should of done is keyboard shortcuts such as you use control c to copy and control v to paste because its quicker, I should of came back after school to finish the work to get it done quicker and to do plan a plan because sometimes I do a plan and I don’t know what I'm doing and also come back to finish the work to get it done and to get it checked off. The next time I do a PowerPoint I’m going to sit on my own and do the work so I don’t get distracted and so I can get it done on time for the deadline. If I had done it on a poster it would of looked boring, and would of sounded boring because I wouldn’t of been able to use the school website and use facts of the school. If I use a template it would of made it quicker, but it wouldn’t of looked that good. Also I could of learnt more keyboard shortcuts to speed up the time.
