2 As with fractions, to add or subtract rational expressions with unlike, or different denominators, you must rewrite with a common denominator before adding or subtracting.

4 You must place the subtracted quantity in parentheses! The problem. Write the denominators as prime factors. Multiply numerator and denominator by factors needed to create a common denominator. Multiply to write the expression with a common denominator. Simplify.
