 15 credit Module  3 week duration (weeks 2-4)  Examined in week 6  Designed to give students ability to use physiotherapy terminology to describe and analyse movement, prescribe basic exercises

 To develop an understanding of neuromusculoskeletal structure and function, in order to analyse normal movement as a foundation for physiotherapy practice.

 Successful students will have a knowledge and understanding of: › Muscle physiology and how it relates to movement › The principles of joint structure and function › The principles of biomechanics › The principles of motor learning › The principles of exercise prescription

 Successful students will be able to: › Begin to analyse posture and movement › Apply principles of motor learning to exercise prescription › Use professional terminology to describe normal movement

 Anatomy  Terminology – learn a new language. › Universal › Latin & Greek based  Explore different types of bones, joints and tissues › Structure  Contractile and non contractile elements. › Function

 Applied physics › Aids analysis of posture, movement and performance. › Understand the forces being placed through joints and tissues. › Used in research, aid performance and to develop rehabilitation strategies.

Motor Learning and Planning  Nervous system  Explore how movement is planned, executed, refined and learned. Exercise Prescription  Helps us to be able to teach exercises and re-educate movement.  Develop fitness programmes.  Develop rehabilitation programmes using adapted principles of training.
