10 Adaptation Like all elephants the Woolly Mammoth has a long trunk for getting food out of the ground and the air. Woolly Mammoths had a thick layer of fur as well as a thick layer of fat to keep them warm in a cold climate. Their large size would have made them difficult to hunt even for a skiled predader.
