4 School Counseling Program Counselors will meet with ALL students at least once a year as part of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program. FR, SOPH, & JR Career Units. Juniors: Opportunity Seminar Financial Aid Meeting Testing Program

5 GENERAL TESTING PROGRAM (proposed)  10 th Grade: W.K.C.E. in fall (Science and Social Studies)  10 th Grade: ASPIRE in spring  11 th Grade: A.S.V.A.B. & PSAT in fall  11 th Grade: A.C.T. in spring  A.C.T./S.A.T.  AP Testing in Spring  ACT prep class offered at GHS in late January!

18 REGISTRATION PROCEDURE (cont.) Paper registration forms will be collected by English teachers on Wednesday, February 12th, signed by parents and the appropriate teachers. After That date, the ability to modify course requests through “Family Access” will no longer be available. All changes at that point will need to be made in the counseling office. Please be aware that the student login/password must be used in the registration process, not the parent’s. **Make sure that your son/daughter pursues “the most rigorous curriculum with which they are comfortable, keeping in mind their future post-secondary goals.”

22 Repeating a class due to a failing grade… Required classes such as Lit & Comp 9, Amer Govt, Math, P.E. 9 and Health need to be repeated… Biology GHS Summer School offers English, Math(?) & Social Studies

24 What 4 year colleges look for… CLASS RANK CORE CREDITS ACT/SAT SCORE  In the UW System, A “Wholistic” admission process is utilized…  What does this mean for your son/daughter?

25 Post high school plans as related to class selection… Sophomore year and beyond… Information re: class selection to again be given during scheduling for Junior and Senior year… Differences between students who plan on attending technical college vs. students who plan on attending two or four year colleges… Students going straight into the world of work…

26 Class selection… what to consider?? Two year/Four year college… Students are encouraged to select rigorous courses through out high school going beyond the minimal college admission requirements Technical College… For the college parallel program, students should again select as rigorous courses as possible For students pursuing technical programs, keep in mind what courses offer the best preparation for that program.
