How do we architect a digital curriculum to provide equitable access to rigorous, relevant, and responsive instruction for every student, every day?

Curriculum Writer Trainings Curriculum Planning Documents Unit Overview Templates Lesson Plan Templates Evaluation Tool Supporting Curriculum Development

Curriculum Writers’ Training Key Concepts Develop an understanding of the principles of Universal Design for Learning and how it should inform decisions in the curriculum writing process. Explain how to apply Universal Design for Learning to choose and evaluate materials, resources, and instructional strategies in order to ensure equitable access to the curriculum for a diverse group of learners. Apply the equity and UDL lens to evaluate digital media and tools for inclusion in curriculum.

Authentic Assessment You have had the opportunity throughout this module to deepen your understanding of how to apply the equity lens as your architect curriculum. You have explored the principles of Universal Design for Learning which guide curriculum development in providing equitable access to the curriculum for every student, every day. 1.Reflect on your lesson through applying the equity lens. Does any part of the lesson ignore existing disparities or produce unintended consequences? If so, how could you address this disparity or consequence? Discuss ways in which you could build background knowledge, vary materials and resources, and modify instruction to provide equitable access to the curriculum for a diverse group of learners.

2.Identify one additional resource or strategy that you will incorporate into the lesson for each of the three principles. Include at least one digital media resource or tool: I. Provide Multiple Means of Representation II. Provide Multiple Means of Engagement III. Provide Multiple Means of Expression Explain how equally high levels of rigor are maintained across the range of multiple means of representation, engagement, and expression. 3. Explain how each resource or strategy you have incorporated will support our goal of customizing and/or personalizing instruction to provide equitable access to the curriculum for every student, every day. Specifically address how your resource/strategy supports enhancing accessibility for diverse learners. Authentic Assessment

Sample Learning Activities Watch the video which highlights a 4th grade science lesson. As you watch, think about the ways in which the lesson provides multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement for students. What additional materials, resources or strategies could be used to increase accessibility for all students?video As you have explored, the dimensions of equity, culturally responsive teaching, and Universal Design for Learning call us to address the needs of a diverse student population. How do instructional materials and strategies previously used in curriculum limit our ability to provide options for customizing and personalizing instruction to address these needs?
