5 Exclusion Criteria <18yrs Regular renal replacement pre-operatively o Any form of dialysis in 90 days preceeding operation Excluded procedures o Appendicectomy o Cholecystectomy o Hernia repair o Primarily urology, gynae, vascular, or transplant procedures  E.g. bowel resection following AAA repair excluded, bowel resection from mesenteric ischaemia included Protocol Launch Meeting and Research Skills Course September 16 th 2015, RCS England

6 Example A A 42 year old man is undergoing a Hartmann’s procedure due to bowel cancer He has had all his pre-operative bloods done (including U&Es) and has never had kidney problems Can he be included in OAKS? 7 Example B A 17 year old woman is having her appendix removed for acute appendicitis She had a renal function blood test 2 months ago, prior to her admission, and has also had her pre- operative renal function checked Can she be included in OAKS? 9 Example D A 85 year old woman had to have a bowel resection and ileostomy formation due to intra-operative bowel ischaemia during her emergency AAA repair She has had renal function bloods taken two months ago and has had an admission and a separate pre-operative U&Es taken Can she be included in OAKS? 10 Example E A 76 year old woman is having a ileostomy formed, as part of a panproctocolectomy She has had renal function bloods taken two months ago and has also had them taken since her admission. She once received haemodialysis during a previous hospital admission, but that was 5 years ago Can she be included in OAKS?
