3 Warm Up  Put your five-minute timed writing out in front of you.  Pick two colors of highlighters. Make a key at the top of the first page of writing. Color=subjects; color=verbs.  Find subjects/verbs in each sentence.  Correctly and quietly identify as many as possible in the next five minutes.

4 Target for Monday  Target: I will determine the meaning of words and phrases in Curious Incident, including figurative and connotative meanings and analyze the impact of these word choices on meaning and tone. Conditions: I will participate in the Carousel Activity questions for Weeks #3 and #4 of the Study Guide. Criteria: finish filling out the study guide and be able to identify various literary terms. 5 Carousel Activity  With your partner, take your assigned question and discuss it. Find textual evidence to support your thinking.  Make sure your answer is complete and thorough. You are the expert in this question.  When we shift, teach the answer to this question with your new partner and discuss their question.  Look at the assigned character from the book and compare reading charts.

6 Exit  Be prepared for a quiz tomorrow over the reading.  Keep reading—this week’s homework is #5 in the packet and pages 177-221 in the book.

Conditions: I will take a reading comprehension quiz. 13 Target for Wed/Thurs  Target: I will analyze how mystery writing and narration impacts the reader. Conditions: I will compare Manhattan Murder Mystery to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Criteria: participate in discussion  CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.7 Analyze the representation of a subject or a key scene in two different artistic mediums, including what is emphasized or absent in each treatment (e.g., Auden's "Musée des Beaux Arts" and Breughel's Landscape with the Fall of Icarus). 14 Manhattan Murder Mystery  What are the elements of mystery writing that Christopher has discussed?  What are the elements Haddon uses?  What are some red herrings?  What are some clues early on?  View the film and look for elements of mystery. What techniques do writers/filmmakers do to create suspense? Why is it effective?
