5 CSU Application Process Filing Period: Oct 1 – Nov 30 Cost: $55 Application: Student must submit a separate application for each campus Online application: www.csumentor.eduwww.csumentor.edu Notification: January – June SIR (Statement of Intent to Register) May 1st Transcripts: Are only required if a student receives a request from the college Admissions office

7 UC Comprehensive Review  GPA in “a-g” courses (10-11)  SAT and/ or ACT Scores  Courses beyond minimum a-g  Honor, AP, college courses  ELC – Top 9 percent  Strength of senior year  Talents Achievements  Passing scores on AP exams

8 UC updates No tuition increase 2015-2017 UC’s will be increasingly selective Question on gender identity & sexual orientation will be asked in application If you have taken a class outside of your high school – UC’s will ask for official transcript even if the class has been added to your high school transcript. Campuses can request additional information, including letters of recommendation.

9 Applying Early  EARLY DECISION: Binding – must withdraw all other applications if accepted. Can only apply early to one college.  EARLY ACTION: non-binding – may consider other options if accepted.  Early options are for those students who do NOT need to repeat SAT scores and who are SURE of their college choice.

12 Common Application 600 Members – Many private schools, including most of the top elite schools use this system as it just makes it easier for students to fill out and submit the application. Create an account: www.commonapp.orgwww.commonapp.org After completing the application, use the “My Colleges” section to ask your counselor and teachers to write letters of recommendation

15 Teacher Recommendations Choose a teacher that knows you BEST Provide teacher with all forms completed and a Stamped Addressed Envelope for every campus Provide teacher with “brag sheet” Touch base with your teacher to see if he/she needs anymore information from you Follow up with a THANK YOU NOTE

16 Student Responsibility 1. Provide teachers with addressed stamped envelope for every private college 2. Submitting his/her own COMPLETE APPLICATION (app, essays, fee, official SAT or ACT scores) 3. Pay Attention to Deadlines
