4 Call Changes Changes are mainly clarifications and minor changes in due dates More substantive changes are still under discussion

5 Call Changes Difference List Conditionally or provisionally accepted items should be listed as submitted Candidates have the option of including a one page cover sheet to provide a desciption of the publication/creative work venues Teaching Load Data Form Departments are encouraged to provide a statement on teaching. The statement may be used to explain departmental teaching norms, the unusual circumstances which lead to some courses not being evaluated, and any other elements of teaching that may be unique to the department.

9 Visa Discussion Visa types: J-1 and H-1 Proposed change in visa administration at UCR

10 J-1 Visa Intended for researchers in training Now limited to 5 years. Processing time is 2-3 months Workload for ISC is 1-2 hours. Restrictions: Researchers could potentially be barred from changing from J-1 to H-1B status. Cost to researcher: SEVIS fee of $100, visa application fee (varies.)

11 H-1B Visa Intended for long-term researchers and staff titles. Limited to 6 years. Processing time of 5-8 months. (Premium is 3-5 months) Workload for ISC: 4-5 hours. Cost to department: $185.00 application fee plus $500.00 fraud prevention and detection fee. Additional $1,000.00 premium processing fee. Cost to researcher: visa application fee (varies).

12 Proposed UCR Policy for H-1B Initial appointment has to be for more than three years regardless of current visa status – except if researcher is at the end of J-1 status from previous employment or if s/he is already in H-1B status). Job titles: – Postdoctoral Scholar (formerly PGR) – Staff Research Associate – Specialist – Project Scientist No H-1B status for non-academic research or teaching employment. Any exceptions have to be approved by the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel.
