WHO IS YOURBIBLE HERO?

IN JULY: WITNESS #7: DAVID, A WHOLE- HEARTED WITNESS FOR GOD A brave-hearted, pure-hearted, broken- hearted man after God’s own heart.

DAVID: DAVID: FORGIVEN SINNER – A PURE HEART

Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. I John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 51: 7-9; 17 - Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. II Timothy 2:22 - Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Matthew 5:8 - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. I Timothy 1:5 - The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Psalm 24:4-6 - Who may ascend the mountain of the L ORD ? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the L ORD and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

1. David got Caught! Temptation is everywhere. Be on Guard. Don’t give in to it.

II Samuel 11:2-4 – One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. II Samuel 12: 13 – Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the L ORD.” Genesis 3:10-13 – He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” 11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13 Then the L ORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 39: 11-12 – One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. 12 She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Numbers 32:23 – “But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the L ORD ; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. Luke 4: 8-13 – Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’” 9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; 11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” 12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. John 8:10-11 – Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

TEMPTATION: Resist it and grow. Give in to it and die. I play with fire and I get burned.

2. David pled for God’s mercy, and sought God’s forgiveness! Got Sin? Go to God!

Psalm 51:7-9, 17 – Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity Mark 2:7 – Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Luke 23:24 – So Pilate decided to grant their demand. James 4:8 – Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. I John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus is the only one who can completely forgive sins. That’s the work of the Cross.

3. David asked for a new nature, for a pure Heart for God, and to keep from sinning.

Psalm 51:10-12 – Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. John 8:9-11 – At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” Luke 11:24 – When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ II Timothy 2:22 – Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. I Timothy 1:5 – The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith II Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: [a] The old has gone, the new is here! a Romans 8:12ff – Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. I Thessalonians 5:23 – May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Repent and sin no more !

4. David, the forgiven, acknowledges God’s Blessings for the pure in heart.

Matthew 5:8 – Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Psalm 24:4-6 – The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. 5 They will receive blessing from the L ORD and vindication from God their Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. Psalm 32:1-2 – Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2 Blessed is the one whose sin the L ORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit John 17 – My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Revelation 3:21 – To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
