3 Where technology is going? High skill, technology-rich economy Digital communication explosion Processing power will drive unthought of possibilities

4 Where children are going? The technology most children experience outside schools is far superior to what schools have Social networking has transformed the lives of the under 25s

5 Making schools more effective Our aims are to: Achieve better learning outcomes and wellbeing for all children and young people regardless of their socio economic background; and Reduce the variation in learning outcomes within and between classrooms, schools and local authorities No school can be truly effective without effective use of technology

6 Technology changes the way we teach and learn Teaching and learning based around learners not institutions –Personalised learning –Online content –Independent learning –Peer-to-peer learning Nature of teaching changes –Solo performer (creating content) –DJ (orchestrating content) ?

7 Transforming teaching and learning The post-16 transformation agenda and the 21 st Century Schools programme will make the investments and changes needed to deliver local and national priorities Codesigning a national standard for ICT

8 Transforming education services Systems to empower school management Technology will drive transformation in the management of education and underpinning infrastructure £££s

9 Technology in Education Keep up with technology (and our children) Make the education system as efficient as possible through technology-enabled change Education must drive technology need, not technology driving education Old teaching + new technology = expensive old teaching New technology + change in learning practice = enhanced outcomes
