Ecosystem Powerpoint By: Ryan Bobbitt Period 7 Science Mr. Sunesara By: Ryan Bobbitt Period 7 Science Mr. Sunesara
What is an ecosystem? All the living and nonliving things that interact in an area.
Example of Ecosystem
What is a habitat? The place were an organism lives and that provides the things it needs to survive.
Example of Habitat
What are biotic factors? AAAA living part of an ecosystem.
Example of Biotic Factor
What are abiotic factors? A nonliving part of an ecosystem.
Example of Abiotic Factor
List the 5 abiotic factors to which organisms respond? WWWWater, sunlight, oxygen, temperature, and soil.
Examples of Abiotic Factors
What are producers? An organism that can make its own food.
Example of Producers
What are consumers? An organism that obtains energy by feeding on other organisms.
Example of Consumers
What are herbivores? AAAAn animal that eats only plants.
Example of Herbivore
What are carnivores? An animal that eats only other animals.
Example of Carnivore
What are omnivores? An animal that eats both plants and animals.
Example of Omnivore
What are decomposers? AAAAn organism that breaks down the large molecules from wastes and the remains of dead organisms into small molecules and returns important materials to the soil and water.
Example of Decomposer
What is a food chain? The series of events in which one organism eats another, resulting in a flow of energy among the organisms involved.
Example of Food Chain grass ---> grasshopper --> mouse ---> snake ---> hawk
What is a food web? The pattern of overlapping food chains in an ecosystem.
Example of Food Web
Draw a food chain?
Draw a food web?

Chapter 16 & 17 in your Holt Biology textbook
Ch 22-1 Energy Roles In every ecosystem, each organism has a role in the movement of energy. producer, consumer, or decomposer. ◊An organism’s energy.
Energy and Matter. Energy Flow Cycle Organisms and Energy Almost all energy on Earth comes from the Sun.
What is Energy?. Energy is the capacity for action/doing work.

Ecosystems. What is an Ecosystem? An ecosystem is a plant and animal community made up of living and nonliving things that interact with each other.
Who’s Who in a Food Chain?
ECOLOGY THE STUDY OF HOW ORGANISMS INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH THEIR PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT.
Energy Flows Through Ecosystems Sun: Makes all energy on Earth. Producers: Make their own food. Consumers: Get their food by eating other organisms. Decomposers:
9/18/14 Objective: How do living things get their energy? Do Now:
Ecosystems and Food Chains An ecosystem is all the living and nonliving things in an area, in relation to their environment.
Food webs model interactions within the community.
Chapter 5 Lesson Two: Interaction Among Living Things.
Week 1. ecosystem all the living and nonliving things that interact with each other in an environment.
