Portfolio 2008-2009

 Drawing is a natural means of communication and expression often with a meaning behind. To truly value a drawing it must be something enjoyed. A representation of originality and creativity.  Drawings have many purposes, from a quick Investigation or observation of a subject to a polished portrayal of a subject you know well or have imagined.  Paying attention to detail and accuracy as well as making your drawing visually appealing is essential  For every artist to take into consideration when forming a idea. With interesting realistic rendering of formal elements. Portrayal and illustration, that can sometimes trigger a emotion or feeling to the message given. Through the depth of the meaning of the Art work itself. It is important for the artist to know the purpose of the individual drawing.  The creation of a art work takes time and thought and careful planning. To get the results the way you imagined, It takes practice, diligence and perseverance.  The purpose I draw, is for the enjoyment of creating a beautiful and meaningful piece of art. When I am inspired and develop a idea, I know the drawing will not appear from nowhere. If I want my artwork to be seen and appreciated then I must create it as I imagine it. As a intended work of quality that will demonstrate my best ideas and skills. The reason I draw day after day, is to come up with a better drawing than my last one. By doing this I am also improving my skills as a artist. When I draw the things I see, I gain a deeper understanding of that particular subject. Sparking my interest of how and why it was created. What thought was behind the whole work process.

Title: Hunger Medium: Colored pencil and ink Subject matter: Comic The process of making this piece was Simple enough. Paying attention to detail Was hard. I drew in pencil the layout I wanted. I then colored it in pencil and went over it in ink to give a finished look. When we were given this assignment I wanted to go in a different direction than what you think a comic would normally portray. Something with a message and meaning. A social problem in our society. I wanted it to be something you really would think about. And something that we Often so easily brush aside and ignore. Even though not contemporary, to me this particular piece is very successful. The message I wanted to give and the way I wanted to portray it was clearly received. I would like to make another comic of another social issue, but make it contemporary. I enjoyed coming up with the idea for a comic. It was something new, yet I have always wanted to do my own comic. What I would have loved to do and would have been interesting, would be to come up with your own short story with characters. Artist:

Title: Boreas Medium: Colored Pencil Subject matter: Figure Study drawing I drew this piece first in pencil and then began to color it with colored pencil For all the lines, which I paid close attention with the original. When I was given the assignment to do a figure drawing I wanted to do one that was both unique and beautiful. I keep searching until I found this artwork by John William Waterhouse and instantly loved it. I thought it would be perfect for my project and decided I would draw it In my opinion I think the coloring and shading were precise. The folds of the shawl and crinkle of the dress also were as accurate. The coloring and shading of the shawl though did not come out the way I had wanted. But overall is still a very sucessful piece of art. I enjoyed making this and the time it took to add the detail and match the coloring. I wish we were able to do a larger scale figure drawing though. Artist: work after John William Waterhouse

Title: Muddy Alligators Medium: Watercolor Subject Matter: Study drawing The original of this piece was done in watercolor. Since I wanted to as accurately match the original I too used watercolor. Matching the colors as closely Possible To the original. I used a fine brush tip to add the final details. I found this artwork in my Art book, done by John singer sargent and hoped I would get a opportunity to create something just like it. To my surprise our first project of my drawing class was to create a study drawing. This was my chance, even though I had little experience with watercolor before then, I have always enjoyed challenges and knew I could accomplish this. In my opinion I think this work was very successful. The coloring and detail are all very accurate to the original. The one thing I had wanted to be better was the water to look somewhat transparent and have a greater reflection. I wanted it to look more like water Overall I very much enjoyed working on this piece and this project Artist : work after John Singer Sargent

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” The question is often brought up why did God go through all the trouble to create a universe?. God did it for three reasons. 1 to reveal his glory 2. To show what He is really like. 3. To love and enjoy it. God’s glory is His character; it is who he is, It is His nature. There are many things we can know about God, just by looking at creation. God likes variety There. There is millions of kinds of plants. There is not another person like you in all of creation, from the beginning to the end. God has never made a copy. Everything is unique. Every snowflake is different. We also know God is creative When we truly look at creation. The more we realize everything has a place, connection, value and purpose. We know God is powerful. For instance when we look at the power of hurricanes, waterfalls and volcanoes, we see just how mighty God is. God also likes beauty, which we can see with all the colors of creation. The sunrise and sunsets, the hundreds of different kinds of flowers. The more we understand about nature and the universe, The more we understand about the nature of God. The universe reveals His glory. “The heavens declare the glory of God ; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” psalms 19:1.Romans 11:36 says Everything comes from God, Everything exists by His power and everything is intended for His glory. The reason God created it all,the very reason why we breath, the reason for our existence, is for Him to love and be loved back. Because we have the special ability to love and glorify Him. God is the essence of love. Our ability to love and receive love is because we were made in the image of God. He has never made anything He doesn’t love. He has never made anything He does not have a purpose for. God created us to form a family, because He wanted children. James 1:18 “In His goodness God also chose to make us His own children. By giving us His true word. And we out of all creation became His choice possession” So as we can see all creation traces the very steps back to the first and greatest Artist: God. Our desire should to be more like Him. Creation of art should be a way of expressing faith in creativity, beautifully, and truthfully. God has given us a wonderful diverse world to explore: We need to take the time to see it through God’s eyes. Knowing a bit more about how things are designed helps us to enjoy Gods creations to a greater extent. Studying the human figure and what amazing creations we are is just a part of learning body proportions. Most important is the fact that we are created in God’s image. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 This verse says how we are Gods Masterpiece. God created us to use all of our abilities and to our utmost. As Christians we should use these arts to the glory of God, things of beauty to the praise of our God.
