2 DMC: What is it? Federal Mandate (JJDPA) When minority youth are disproportionately represented in the juvenile justice system (population and white population/contact)

4 DMC Stats for Dauphin County and Pennsylvania County 24.9% African American – RRI at arrest in 2008 was 2.73* 8.1% Hispanic/Latino 2.7% Asian 63.8% Caucasian State 14.1% African American – RRI at arrest in 2008 was 3.70* 6.6% Hispanic/Latino 2.4% Asian 76.5% Caucasian *Indicates that the relative volume of arrests involving all minority youth in Dauphin County was 2.73 and 3.7 (statewide) times as high as for white youth.

5 Middle School DMC Curriculum Developed as an outcome to the forums Designed to reduce arrests of juveniles Focus on 7 th and 8 th graders Piloted in Downey in 2009 Comprised of 10 lessons designed to educate youth about their rights, responsibilities, and the juvenile justice system
