4 4 paul drumm, 19 th May 2004 Discussion: –Practicality of realising a 4MW amplifier; 2 MW amplifier in bits – reconstruction 4 MW – need to upgrade to a higher voltage Tubes –TH116 Tube no longer easily available »Old ISIS tubes removed at 2.3 MW –TH170 alternative tube not a 4 MW tube –4 MW split between 4 cavities »Losses each time the power is split –Concluded too many risks

5 5 paul drumm, 19 th May 2004 …Discussion –Resolved to build two “2MW” circuits NF bunch rotation test circuit (88MHz) Old circuit rebuilt to “2MW” –1 MW in Cavity ≈ 1.25 MW in the amplifier “Old circuit” was limited to 1.8MW –Output coupling redesign –Expect to obtain up to 2.8 MW with TH170 tube. Conclusion: –CERN will build two “2MW” power amplifiers
