1 My Country, SOUTH KOREA By Ga Won March 10th 2008

2 Religion The picture is about Buddhism. There are a lot of religion in Korea. Some buildings are from religion. The main religions are Buddhism, Christian. Also, there is religion called Cheon-do-gyo. Cheon-do-gyo is from nineteenth century.

3 Food Kimchi-Kimchi is a Korean traditional food and it is spicy. Usually people make this food at late fall or early winter for whole year. Kimbap- Kimbab is a Korean sushi. This is also famous in Korea. Duk bok i- Duk bok i is a spicy rice cake. Usually people eat in lunch time. Mi Yeok Guk- Mi Yeok Guk is a Korean traditional soup. We eat it on our birthday.

4 Language We use Korean but every place, it has different accent except for Seoul. People who are living in Seoul don't use any accents. This is example of some accents in Korea. 5 History The first country was called Go Jo Sun. Later, countries called Goguryeo, Baekjae and Shilla made. Later, Silla fought and conquered Goguryeo and Baekjae. Then Korea divided in 3 country again and country called Goryeo made in one country. After that Jo seon was built and Japan started to control us at 1910. Now we are independent!

6 Famous Place Han River-In Seoul, there is river called Han Gang but Gang means river. It's really long river. Kyung Bok Gung-Most popular place for people who came from other country. Keunjeong jeon- A lot of kings enthroned here.

7 Famous People #1 Yu Gwan Sun- She born in 1902 but she died at 1920. At that time, Korea was Japan's country. A lot of people wanted to be independent from Japan so they made a lot of independent fight. Yu Gwan Sun was very young but she made independent fight too. She got caught by Japanese people and at 1920, Yu Gwan Sun died.

8 Famous People #2 Yi Sun Shin- He was very brave general. He was born in 1545 and he died at 1598. He born in Korea but he went to China and he became general. Then, he came back to Korea. He made a ship called Geo Buk Seon (turtle ship) and that ship is really famous in Korea. When we had a war with Japan, he did a great job, but at last war, he died and he said “ don't tell anyone that I died.” It was famous saying in Korea.

9 Famous People #3 Se Jong King-He born in 1397 and he died at 1450. He was a king of Joseon. He made Korean which is called Hun Min Jeong Eum, because he thought it is difficult to read Chinese characters so I have to make a new and easy word while he was looking at people. First, people didn't like our language but now we change some word and now we are using it.

10 Sport Tae Quan Do: Tae Quan Do is a Korean traditional sports. There are ribbon for level and they are in different colours. Si Leum: People do this in the sand.

11 Games Yut Noli:Yut Noli is a stick game. You need four sticks that has 4 cross things on it and board. If you look at the picture you can see white things and black things. It is a chessman, and you need 4 of them for each person. You have to throw the stick to go forward. Kite game: In Seol Nal, you play this for your luck. People believe that if you play with kite and let it go, you will be lucky. In Korea, we called this 'Yeon Nal Li Gi'. Usually children play this kite game.

12 Festivals #1 Chuseok: Chuseok is a thanks giving day festival. Also, it is called Full Moon day festival because every this festival people always can see full moon. In this day people eat dumpling and rice cake called Song Pyeon. This festival is 3 days but real day of this festival is just one day. Women dance Gang Gang Sul Lae (It is kind of game) in night.

13 Festival #2 Seol Nal: Seol Nal is a New year day. It is also 3 days. When they wake up, people go to grave, but if they don't go to grave, they put some food like fruits, and they bow. Then, they bow to the older person. Then, they will give you money. After that, we usually eat breakfast. It is usually at February.

14 Music Arirang: The song means ' Arirang Arirang Ah Ah Arirang. I'm walking Arirang mountain. Someone who abandoned me. He won't go more than 10km and have foot disease.' National anthem: Korea national anthem is quite activity. We call our national anthem like this; Ae Guk Ga. It tells us about our nature like flowers and mountains. Also, they are talking about god.

15 Dance Tal Chum: Tal Chum means mask dance. We wear masks and dance and play. Most of the time, people do some play. Bu Chae Chum: Bu Chae Chum means Fan Dance. Usually women play and they wore Han Bok as picture. Their fans looks like half moon and usually the colour of fan is pink and white.

16 Music Instruments #1 Jang gu: It is a Korean traditional drum. It has two sides and two different sticks. when you don't have this, you can just hit box with hand instead of special sticks. Middle part is thin.The stick that you hold in right hand is really thin but the stick that you hold in left hand is quite thick and the edge looks like a circle.

17 Music Instruments #2 Hae Guem: It is stringed instrument. There are 2 strings. You should sit down if you want to play this. One hand should hold stick for making sound and one hand should press the string to make a different tone. The bottom part should touch your knee.

18 Music Instruments #3 Geo Mun Go: This is also stringed instrument. People sit down and put Geo Mun Go on their knees(like picture). One hand should press somewhere to make a different tone and another hand should flip string to make a sound.It has 6 strings.

19 Symbols #1 Half moon Bear: It is our national animal now. We called it Ban Dal Sa Seum Gom. Han Bok: It is our traditional clothing. Today, people wear Han Bok at the New year and sometimes someone wear Han Bok at Chu Seok!

20 Symbols #2 Rose of Sharon: We call this flower as Mu Gung Hwa. This flower is our national flower. The most common colour is pink, red and white. Sometimes it can be purple, too. The middle part is yellow and it has 5 leaves. National flag of Korea: We call this Taegeukgi. At the middle it has red and blue circle and the corner,there are some black lines.
