9 Distribution EMS (D-EMS): -Legacy D-EMS: A set of analysis and decision making tools to support/assist the operator for monitoring and operation of the distribution system. (Substation Automation and Integration of IEC61850) -Smart Grid D-EMS: A set of analysis and decision making tools for automated monitoring, operation, control, protection and optimization of the distribution system with provisions for the operator intervention. (Feeder Automation based on telemetry)

10 Our Approach to D-EMS Development: Augmentation and enhancement of the legacy D-EMS with faster, “new” and more encompassing strategies and algorithms based on use of ICTs to provide new applications.

11 D-EMS Hardware Platform D-EMS platform is a utility-grade off-the-shelf hardware platform which includes (i) embedded computational resources and (ii) proprietary software-based algorithms to execute LDC-tailored D-EMS functions. D-EMS also can include: - Graphical user interface, -Human-machine interface, -Bi-directional communication with components/subsystems in its domain of operation/influence.
