Junior Design Plan  Develop a wind system to generate power on Mars  Devise an efficient packaging and self- deployment system for wind generator  Test and evaluate in Florida Tech’s wind tunnel

Project Refocus  We have decided to refocus our project on the Windbelt ® design manufactured by Humdinger. http://www.humdingerwind.com/windbelt.html

Concept A Windbelt® uses aeroelastic flutter to oscillate a magnet between two coils to generate AC current that is then converted to DC current Due to the complicated nature of flutter, there is much research and experimentation that can be done with the Windbelt

Project Goal Our goal is to increase the performance characteristics and knowledge database of the Windbelt ® design through research, mathematical modeling, and experimentation As a result of the experimentation, we also hope to generate data for Humdinger about their device and help provide more information about how aeroelastic flutter can be harnessed for wind energy

Current Progress  Opening dialogue with Humdinger  Researching companies to determine which belt materials to work with  Determining important governing parameters  Formulating project timeline, including which modifications to investigate  Creating a mathematical model of simplified device operation

Future Objectives  Complete methodology for experimentally varying working parameters  Solicit material donations for belts and magnets  Complete full mathematical model of Windbelt ® operation  Complete modeling of Windbelt ® using ProE, Ansys, and Fluent.  Build universal frame for aerodynamic testing of various belt configurations  Collect new experimental data  Complete methodology for experimentally varying working parameters  Solicit material donations for belts and magnets  Complete full mathematical model of Windbelt ® operation  Complete modeling of Windbelt ® using ProE, Ansys, and Fluent.  Build universal frame for aerodynamic testing of various belt configurations  Collect new experimental data
