3 Place Value with Decimals
Lesson 1.1 Place Value with Decimals I can identify place value of decimals to thousandths. Target position: Horizontal, 2.5 from top left corner; Vertical, 4.0 from top left corner

4 Vocabulary Decimal A base ten number written with a decimal point. 2.75 decimal decimal point Good to Know!  Decimals are based on the number ten.  The value and position of each digit in a decimal determine how much the decimal is worth.  The decimal point separates the whole number from the part that is less than one. Textbox position 0.5 horizontal, 1.0 vertical “Good to Know” Position: 0.8 horizontal (Light bulb, 0.5 horizontal)

5 Example 1 Write in word form. Fill in the place-value chart for the number.

6 Example 2 Write 0.6 in word form. Fill in the place-value chart for the number. Good to Know! When there is no whole number preceding the decimal point, only the part that is less than one is read.

8 Example 4 Write the decimal that represents two and sixty-three hundredths. Write the whole number. two = 2 Insert the decimal for “and”. two and = 2. Add the part that is less sixty-three hundredths = 2.63 than one. Two and sixty-three hundredths = 2.63

Write the whole number. Insert the word “and” for the decimal. Add the words for the part that is less than one. 32.125
