5. Is Nebraska Going to Apply for a Waiver from NCLB Sanctions? The Commissioner, not the State Board, may apply for a waiver of NCLB Requirements The Nebraska Department of Education has had numerous conversations with USDE regarding the possibility of Nebraska applying for a waiver of NCLB requirements Commissioner Blomstedt and NDE staff are leading the development of a waiver of NCLB requirements application that is consistent with State Board initiatives, policies, and developing vision 1/20/20155

8. Will School Districts Still Have NCLB Sanctions if Nebraska Receives a Waiver? That depends… ▫ NDE can submit proposals in a waiver request to eliminate sanctions, but there is no guarantee of USDE (United States Department of Education) approval There is a requirement to identify Priority Schools and Focus Schools 1/20/20158
