1 Pudsey Grangefield School
The Student-led Review

2 What’s the big difference?
You will be preparing your own Review You will be delivering your own Review to your Learning Coach & Parent / Carer You will decide on some key goals for discussion at your Review

3 After The Review Before The Review The Review Itself After the Review I will complete an action plan I will evaluate my planning & I will need to prepare: My targets My grades How I learn best 3 learning goals to discuss I will open the Review I will talk about my learning grades I will discuss my future learning goals

4 Planning & Preparation for my Review

5 I need to know things about me…
How I learn best – my “Learning-to-Learn” Skills My current grade or level for each subject I study My target grades My position in the Year Group – (PI) My E/O/B level for each of my subjects My Effort & Behaviour AB or CD My Homework/Independent Learning AB or CD

6 What do the grades and numbers mean?
The following slides will give you more information…

7 Current Grade / Level This is a measure of my current performance
It will be a GCSE grade (eg A or D) It might be a level (eg 5a or 6b) This is based on coursework, classwork, homework and any exam practices.

8 The Measure E/O/B This tells me if my current progress is on track to finally get my target grade For example. I might be getting Grade D in English now. The teacher agrees that I am on track to get my Grade C target in the final exam. I am On Target. E/O/B are abbreviations for: Exceeding my target grade On my target grade Below my target grade

9 Other measures I can use to talk about myself
Effort & Behaviour grades Homework (Independent Learning) grade My PI – the position in the Year Group Here is a sheet giving you all the “descriptors” for a grade: 1 2 3 4 5 6

10 A reminder of what the grades mean
Effort & Behaviour Homework / Independent Learning Grade A I always work to the best of my ability. I always seek to make a special contribution to lessons and my behaviour is excellent. As a result of my contributions the learning of the group is advanced. I value homework highly and frequently show individual research. I complete all my work on time and to the highest standard. Because of this my homework moves my learning forward. Grade B I always work to the best of my ability and my behaviour is excellent and focussed on learning. I think homework is important and occasionally show individual research and development I always complete homework on time and to a good standard. Because of this my learning is being advanced through homework. Grade C I sometimes work to the best of my ability. I need to make a more consistent effort if I am to progress. My behaviour does not always support my learning. I do not value homework enough and rarely show original research or development. Occasionally I do not complete it on time or to a reasonable standard Because of this I am damaging some of my learning chances. Grade D I am not working to the best of my ability My behaviour is not always good and I sometimes slow my own learning and the learning of other students in the group. My behaviours show that I do not value homework and usually don’t meet the minimum requirements. Often work is not completed or handed in on time. Because of this I am damaging lots of my learning.

11 What is the structure of my review?
See the next slide

12 Explain what information is available about me – for example
what the grades and abbreviations mean Explain what I am most pleased about – and how this has happened – describe my Learning Skills. Discuss any differences between my current performance and my target grades Agree three SMART targets that will allow me to improve my performance Agree with my Learning Coach and Parent / Carer how they can help me to achieve these targets.

13 So what do I need to do next?
I now need to prepare so that I am ready for my Review! I will need to understand what skills I use to make me successful. I will need to be familiar with my 6 areas of information (Grades, Targets etc) . I will need to suggest 3 learning goals I will need to rehearse what I am going to say.

14 Learning Coach Sessions
I can use these over the next few weeks to prepare I can also use these to practice and rehearse what I am going to say at my Review!

15 Coaching Group Exercise
John Richardshaw has just received his Interim Review Sheet. What key things should John mention in his Review? What do the letters & numbers mean on his Report? Can you clearly explain them to a partner? What goals might John have about his learning?
