Tanks were mainly used for rolling over rough ground, to break through barbed wire and to crush Machines Guns posts that were made very soon after the war. Winston Churchill used his money from his navy department to pay for early experiments to be done on these Tanks. The first few Tanks were used in September 1916 by Field Marshal Hag. In August, 534 Tanks went into action. Four days later only six were fit to fight. Britain kept tying t build better tanks all through the war, but they were still slow and not very good.
Balloons were used in wars around ever since 1794, but their was a problem no one knew how to power them and steer them until 1900. But in that year a German soldier named Count Ferdinand von zeppelin, launched his new invention. It was an airship. It had 2 powered motors and it was 420 ft long and 40 ft wide. In 1913 zeppelins carried passengers over long distances. When the war came, they were soon dropping bombs over Britain and France.
Machines Guns were one of the most easiest weapons to handle, even though you couldnt carry them. The easy thing about Machine Guns is the firing because they can fire 8 bullets a second. Machine Guns made it easy to defend if the gunners had good cover in a dug-out or a trench.
There were over 60 different types of gases used in the war. All gases were most difficult to control. These gases could be blown by the wind back at the user that had thrown the gas in the first place. The mustard can soak trenches and causes blistering for days afterwards.
Merchant ships carrying food or supplies to Britain would be attacked sometimes by German submarines. However, this was a risky business. In May 1915 the Lusitania was attacked and 1202 people died in that attack.
