4. Do you know what this is? Of course, you do. It’s too easy. It’s a fish. Yes, that’s right. It is a fish. But do you know the name of this fish? Well, it is called “milkfish,” also known as “An-Ping fish.” Why is it named like that and what is so special about this fish? Let’s get to know something about it!

5. Milkfish belongs to the tropical and subtropical water areas. Therefore, we can often see them in the Indonesia sea areas, the tropical and subtropical sea areas of the Pacific Ocean. That is why they are often seen here in the southern part of Taiwan. From this picture below, you can see where they often show up here in Taiwan.

7. Milkfish is abundant mainly in May till November every year. During this time of the year, they are very tasty and the price of this fish is usually low. Generally speaking, milkfish has two types of enemies. One type is “birds,” especially those that love eating fish. Another type is “the cold currents.” Milkfish is really afraid of the cold. So in winter, they often die because of the cold currents coming.

No matter how you cook it, fry or roast, it tastes very delicious. Recently, our government has helped to develop this market.

Besides that, there are dried milkfish floss, milkfish candies, milkfish tang-bu-la and even canned milkfish. All these products are delicious and are known as local foods at the An-Ping area in Tainan.

13. Why is milkfish also called An-Ping fish? The breeding of milkfish has been over 300 years. The An-Ping area in Tainan is the largest, the earliest and the longest in the history of milkfish breeding. In order to remember Cheng Cheng- Kung, who landed on the An-Ping shore, milkfish is also called An-Ping fish.
