4 State of High School Soccer Nationally Soccer is the fifth-most popular sport for boys and girls at the high school level. According to the 2006-07 High School Athletics Participation Survey which is listed in the 2007-08 NFHS Handbook: 377,999 – H.S. Boys participate in the sport 337,632 – H.S. Girls participate in the sport 11,066 – H.S. Boys programs participate throughout the country 10,503 – H.S. Girls programs participate throughout the country

Any player or coach who receives a total of five cautions in one season shall be suspended from and may not participate in the next regularly scheduled game, including postseason games. Suspended players or coaches must serve their suspension in the next scheduled contest. ACCUMULATION PROCEDURE

31 Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 2. If a player or coach receives an additional three cautions after the first suspension, an additional one game penalty would apply and the process would be repeated after the next three cautions. ACCUMULATION CONTINUED

32 Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 3.Players and coaches will only count a maximum of one caution in any game for the purposes of this rule. COUNTING CAUTIONS

Each school is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all cautions received during the season and the post-season tournament. Schools must notify the IHSAA Assistant Commissioner responsible for Soccer when the player or coach reaches the suspension level.

34 Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 5.Suspended players may not dress but may be on the bench. Suspended coaches are prohibited from having contact with the team members or coaching staff beginning at the end of the school day of the contest until 30 minutes after the completion of that contest. The suspended coach may not attend the game nor shall he/she be on school premises SUSPENSION

35 Take Part. Get Set For Life.™ INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 6. Any illegal participation of suspended players or coaches shall result in the forfeiture of the contest. ILLEGAL PARTICIPATION

Coaches are charged with maintaining accurate records of yellow cards received by players and members of the coaching staff. This information must be reported to the athletic administrator in the school. REPORTING PROCEDURE
