Design and Engineering
WLMS Technology

Technology Technology takes place when people use their knowledge to extend their abilities, satisfy needs and wants. The practical use of human knowledge.

Nanotechnology Nanotechnology is an engineering field that involves manipulating materials on an atomic or molecular level. Nanotechnology has produced machines that are smaller than 1/1000 of the diameter of the human hair. Such machines can flow though your veins like blood cells.

Design Design is the process of creating things by planning.

The Design Process Identify a need or define the problem.
Gather information. Develop possible solutions. Model the solution. Test and evaluate the solution. Refine the solution. Communicate your ideas.

Invention The process of designing new products is called invention.

Innovation Improving and changing a technology that already exists is called innovation.

Criteria are the things that the product must do or include.

Constraints are the limits placed on the design and the designer.

Brainstorming Brainstorming is a process in which group members suggest ideas out loud as they think of them. The ideas are usually recorded on a large pad or whiteboard so the whole group can see them. After the brainstorming session is over, the advantages and disadvantages of each idea are reviewed and narrowed down to a few possible solutions.

Prototype A prototype is a working model. It looks and functions just like the finished product and is usually made by hand.

Engineer An engineer is a person who uses his or her knowledge of science, math, technology, and communication to solve technical design problems.

Productivity Productivity is the relationship between how many hours are worked and the quantity of products made in that time period. Manufacturing engineers improve productivity by designing and organizing the placement of machines on the plant’s floor. They also develop the sequence of processes used to transform materials into products.
