Aspire: Challenge: Aspire: Challenge: Bell Task! On your table, decide what the word ‘climate’ means and think of some reasons why some places have different climates. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Aspire: Challenge: North Battleford Climate DiagramMiddlesbrough Climate Diagram Climates in different places vary due to lots of factors. How do these places differ? Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Aspire: Challenge: Northbattleford - Canada 52 degrees North Middlesbrough- England 54 degrees North On your table – suggest some possible reasons for why the climates are different. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

The Climate System Explain what factors influence a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Explain what factors influences a climate system. Lattitude (distance North and South from the equator) effects the concentration of solar energy on the earths surface. Generally, the further north or south you are from the Equator, the warmer it will be. This is because the world is shaped like a ball and the energy from the sunhas to cover a larger area to the poles. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: The Earth receives much more heat from the sun at the equator and the tropics than anywhere else. Itmoves this energy in two major ways – through wind and water. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Atmosphere Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Quick question! On a mini whiteboard write the letter that relates to each correct statement. A.Winds move the suns energy towards the equator B.Winds move the suns energy towards the equator C.The Equator and the tropics receive more energy from the sun than other places on Earth. D.The climate is just what the weather is like. E.The red line on a climate diagram represents temperature. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Heat is also moved from the equator to the poles through the ocean. The nearer you are to one of these oceanic ‘thermal’s’ the warmer your location will be. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Water warms and cools more slowly than the land around it, being near the ocean means a milder climate. Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Factors affecting climate From the interactive you should now know more about the influences on the World's climate: Latitude Location relative to continents and oceans Situation (where you are) in relation to large scale atmospheric circulation patterns Altitude Local geographical features such as topography (hills and mountains) or the nature of a built up area Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Recap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7D LLxrrBV8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7D LLxrrBV8 Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Task and success criteria Latitude (how north or south you are from the equator) Location relative to continents and oceans Situation in relation to large scale atmospheric circulation patterns Altitude (height above sea level) Local geographical features such as topography (hills and mountains) or the nature of a built up area. How would you explain each process to a young audience of 10 year olds? What are the key words you would use? As a class come up with success criteria to judge the presentations. write a 5 minute presentation that explains each of the processes and present this to your class. Use the rest of your lesson to present these to the rest of your group- what will they think about your presentation? Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.

Aspire: Challenge: Plenary: As a class, use the criteria for judging each pair’s presentation. Which pair made the best presentation and why? Explain what factors influences a climate system. Describe some factors that influence climate.
