3 Memorize this Poem Find your number. Look right next door. 4 or less just ignore. 5 or more, add 1 more.

4 Use Place Value Carefully to Round! 1.Find the digit in the place you are asked to round to. (tens, hundreds or thousands) 2. Look right next door. Look at the number in the place to the right! 3. If the number in the place to the right is 4 or less “just ignore” and keep the digit the same. 4. If the number in the place to the right is 5 or more, you add 1 more to the digit.

6 Round this number to the nearest ten. Look right next door. 6 5 7 Draw an arrow to the right of the number. Look at the ones place.

7 Round this number to the nearest ten. 5 or more, add one more. 6 5 7 Since 7 is more than 5 we “round up” and add one to the tens place.

8 Round this number to the nearest ten. 5 or more, add one more. 6 6 0 Change the numbers in the ones place to 0 ’ s.
