3 UNECE Statistical Division Slide 3October 16, 2015 General objectives of Guidelines 1.Provide advise to countries which wish to improve their emigration data by using other countries immigration statistics 2.To advise countries producing data on their immigrants on the needs of immigrants’ sending countries 3.To reaffirm the importance of emigration perspective in data collection and dissemination by international organizations

5 UNECE Statistical Division Slide 5October 16, 2015 Content of Guidelines:  Review of emigration data, including relevant population groups and data sources (ch. 2-3)  Review of immigration data and their use by sending countries to improve emigration data (ch.4)  How to improve availability of immigration data for use by sending countries (ch. 5)  Guidelines respect the fact that each country produces immigration statistics according to national and international requirements
