3 Protect Your Child’s Personal Information Help your kids get their own online presence Set their privacy and security settings Remind them it is ok to limit how much information they share

4 Connect with Care When in doubt, throw it out Links in emails, posts, and ads are often the way cybercriminals compromise your computer If it looks suspicious, delete it

5 Be Web Wise Stay current. Keep pace with new ways to stay safe online. Common Sense Media

7 Know Your ISP’s Protection Features All major ISPs have tools to help you manage young children’s online experience –Selecting approved websites –Monitoring the amount of time spent online –Limiting the people who can contact your child Google Yahoo

8 Remain Positively Engaged Pay attention to and know the online environments your children use. Surf the Internet with them. Appreciate their participation in online communities and show interest in their friends. Try to react constructively when they encounter inappropriate material and make it a teachable moment.

9 Teach Critical Thinking Help your children identify safe, credible websites and applications. Encourage them to be cautious clicking on, downloading, posting, and uploading content.

10 Explain the Implications Help your children understand the public nature of the Internet and its risks as well as benefits. Be sure they know that any digital info they share can easily be copied and pasted elsewhere.

11 Empower Your Children to Handle Problems Bullying Unwanted contact Hurtful comments Work with them on strategies: –Talking to a trusted adult –Not retaliating –Blocking the person –Filing a complaint
