12 CSD-14 Partnerships Fair – May 2006 Martyn Griffiths Goals & Objectives □ With reference to chapter V of JPOI Vinyl 2010 has agreed a Social Dialogue Charter between industry and trade unions with the objective of raising health, safety and environmental standards to higher levels and harmonize sustainability goals also the new EU Member States

13 CSD-14 Partnerships Fair – May 2006 Martyn Griffiths Partnership Outcomes □ Resin Manufacturing □Compliance with ECVM Charters on VCM/S-PVC and E- PVC, setting voluntary severe emission standards □Contribution to the European IPPC Bureau discussions in relation to the BREF on PVC production □ Additives □Responsible use of plasticizers, support studies and EU risk assessments □Phase-out of cadmium based stabilisers in 2001 in the EU15 □20% reduction use of lead based stabilisers from 2000 to 2005

14 CSD-14 Partnerships Fair – May 2006 Martyn Griffiths Partnership Outcomes □ Waste management □Commitment on waste management (recycling to ultimate disposal) operating today through more than 20 projects covering technology, research, organisation (recycling schemes) and communication (best practice) □ We are keeping our promises - having achieved our target of recycling 25% in 2003 up to 50% in 2005 of collectable, available PVC post- consumer waste from pipes and windows profiles □Mid-term review for the targets 2006-2010

17 CSD-14 Partnerships Fair – May 2006 Martyn Griffiths Future Challenges/ Next Steps □Drive to improve the eco-efficiency of PVC resin, plasticisers and stabilisers manufacture □Replace lead stabilisers by 2015 □Improve PVC waste management, boosting collection and recycling schemes □Implement mechanical and feedstock recycling technologies and options
