6 The indicators For each of the five key capabilities there are indicators. These are intended to be a menu of the underlying behaviours expected – not a definitive checklist. There are significant differences in the context and complexity of people’s work across the department. The indicators describe the essential skills and abilities of all public sector employees despite these differences. They are representative of the minimum capabilities required of public sector employees and build along a continuum in terms of the amount and extent required of staff.

9 Communication and team work Clear and confident communication of ideas Listening, checking and responding appropriately Prepares concise accurate material within departmental standards Values diversity and treats others with respect Commitment to effective client service Positive relationships with work colleagues and community members
