4. 2014-2015 BUSINESS STRATEGY: Very Small Aperture Terminal Wireless Service (VSAT) 4 Despite making significant inroads in enabling broadband connectivity to the key Government and Public Entities such as the Department of Education (KwaZulu-Natal and Free State), Centlec, Ethniks and the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa (“USAASA”) for the ICT Hubs; sustainability of the VSAT service remains precarious. Going into the 2014 – 2017 MTEF period, SENTECH will focus the VSAT service on supporting Government-led ICT initiatives, in particular the rollout of end-to-end communications network services to rural schools and Community Telecentres in partnership with USAASA. SENTECH will also look at alternative and more affordable satellite providers for this product to ensure that VSAT is affordable to customers and can compete in the tough market place.
