2  Asthma is the most common chronic disease in childhood  Asthma is both a chronic and acute respiratory disorder in which the airways become narrow or blocked  It effects twice as many boys then it does girls

3  Symptoms of acute attacks could be a vary of things including  - wheezing (high pitched whistling sound)  -coughing  -difficulty breathing  - Tightness in the chest Symptoms are triggered by things in the environment such as allergens, cold air, exercise, and things that cause allergies such as dust mites, mold, pollen and some types of viral infections

4 Treatment of asthma consists on identifying substances that cause flare ups and removing them from child’s environment Because each case of Asthma is different treatment needs to be tailored to each child. Medications are also another way of managing Asthma, These can be in the form of a pill or an inhalor such as This picture shows the most quick relief medication that most children will most likely use.

5  1 st off Teachers should be familiar with the symptoms od a child’s allergic reaction and what things children should stay away from.  Teachers should meet with the child’s parents and have them go over their students action plan for an attack as well as go over child’s asthma triggers.  Learn about students medications and how to administer them and where they are stored.  Monitor all food or other source of allergens that are brought into the classroom.  Post emergency numbers next to the telephone  Talk to your class about asthma so the student’s peers understand why he/she may take medication or need to exercise indoors during really cold weather
