2 Essential Curriculum: What’s Coming Up? Math I can write an equation for my multiplication word problem. I can multiply a whole number of up to 4 digits by a one digit number I can multiply a two digit by a two digit number I can divide four-digit dividends by a one-digit divisor using various methods.

3 Essential Curriculum: What’s Coming Up? Reading I can explain what the text says by referring to details and examples in the text. I can draw inferences based on details and examples in the text. I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as used figuratively in mythology. I can find similarities and differences within diverse stories. Our next genre is Informational Text.

4 Essential Curriculum: What’s Coming Up? Science I can determine which objects are attracted to magnets by observing them move. I can observe the attraction of objects resulting from electrical charges. I can recognize basic forms of energy and how they cause motion or create change. I can recognize that light travels in a straight line. I can understand light is changed by refraction, reflection, or absorption.

5 Essential Curriculum: What’s Coming Up? Social Studies I can define a key principle as a general or fundamental truth used in deciding conduct or choice. I can identify the three branches of government. I can identify the organizational structure of the North Carolina government. I can describe the various parts of the Legislative Branch and what each one does. I can describe the various parts of the Executive Branch and what each one does. I can describe the various parts of the Judicial Branch. I can identify the leaders of state and local governments.

6 What are some of the Math strategies your child will learn? Decomposing Numbers Multiplication Strategies –Area Model –Traditional –Partial Products

7 Homework Expectations? Read for at least 30 minutes each night and complete reading log Study Math facts (use Math Magician or flashcards) Study vocabulary Study spelling words Moby Max and Ticket to Read Please check your child’s homework folder for additional homework assignments/projects.
