1 Ohara C ( Mph ), Murata A ( MD ), Inoue M ( MD,PhD ), Inoue K ( MD,PhD ) Persons with undiagnosed diabetes have worse profiles of cardiovascular and metabolic predictors than those with known diabetes. Undiagnosed diabetes should also be recognized as a condition with these risks. Table1 Subject Characteristics Figure1 Frequencies of subjects who had worse profiles of cardiovascular and metabolic markers according to the four categories Table2 Comparison of cardiovascular and metabolic markers between known and undiagnosed diabetes according to age (<60.5, ≧ 60.5 years) Table3 Comparison of cardiovascular and metabolic markers between known/poor control (HbA1c >=7.0%) and undiagnosed diabetes POINT ・ Table1&Figure1 ・ Table2 ・ Table3 Undiagnosed diabetes has worse profiles of cardiovascular and metabolic markers than known diabetes Tosa Danji ( MD, PhD), Tosa Danji ( MD, PhD), Department of Inoue Methods, Kada Medical Center, IM University School of Medicine, Japan IntroductionResults Methods Design: Setting &Period: Purpose of this study Discussion Conclusion wasyaa@shiranzeyo.jp Address: 8-8-8 Doraemon-City, Tokyo, Japan N=23,491 NFG (Normal Fasting Glucose) FPG<100 N=23,491 NFG (Normal Fasting Glucose) FPG<100 N=8,786 IFG (Impaired Fasting Glucose ) 100 ≦ FPG > 125 N=8,786 IFG (Impaired Fasting Glucose ) 100 ≦ FPG > 125 N=63103 persons Excluded N=63103 persons Excluded N=34,282 persons Eligible for analysis N=34,282 persons Eligible for analysis N=97,585 persons Aged 23-64 years April 1998 –march 2006 N=97,585 persons Aged 23-64 years April 1998 –march 2006 N=1089 Undiagnosed Diabetes FPG ≧ 126 N=1089 Undiagnosed Diabetes FPG ≧ 126 N=795 Known Diabetes FPG ≧ 126 N=795 Known Diabetes FPG ≧ 126 Characteristics NFGIFG Known Diabetes Undiagnosed Diabetes P value adjusted by Sex Age BMI n = 23491 n = 8786n = 916 n = 1089 4 groups 2groups Known vs Undiagnose d Fasting plasma glucose (mol/l) 5.0±0.325.9±0.38.0±2.48.9±2.3<.0001 HbA1c (%) 4.8±0.45.2±0.56.9±1.67.1±1.8<.0001 Age (years) 49.8 ±13.355.3±11.660.3±8.058.6±10.4 Male sex, n (%) 9879 〈 42.1) 5779(65.8)650(71.3)781(71.7) BMI (kg/m2) 22.3±2.924.0±3.123.9±3.124.9±3.5 Systolic blood pressure (mmHg) 120±17131±18131±17137±19<.0001 Diastolic blood pressure (mmHg) 73±1180±1178±1083±11<.0001 Triglycerides (mmol/l) 0.93(0.67to1.35)1.24(0.89to1.79)1.33(0.92to1.85) 1.54(1.07to2.30) <.0001 Total cholesterol (mmol/l) 199.6±35.1208.1 ± 35.4202.0 ± 34.4214.0 ± 38.1<.0001 HDL cholesterol (mmol/l) 59.1±14.854.5±14.052.3±13.851.1±12.7<.0001 Asparate aminotransferase (U/l) 20.0(17to24)22.0(19to27)22(18to27)24(19to31)<.0001 Alanine aminotransferase (U/l) 17(13to23)21(16to32)22(16to32)26(19to39)<.0001 γ -Glutamyltranspeptidase (U/l) 17(11to28)26(16to47)25(15to46)38(23to72)<.0001 Uric acid 5.1±1.35.8±1.45.4±1.35.6±1.4<.0001 Data are expressed as mean ± SD, median (25th percentile, 75th percentile) or number (%).
