2. Buy Biodegradable Products Biodegradable products will decompose naturally over short periods of time. They will turn back into natural substances, and unlike other popular materials today, they don't take hundreds or thousands of years to decompose. This creates less waste, and will create a better outcome for the environment. Biodegradable items include food scraps and coffee grounds, paper towels, toilet paper, newspapers, junk mail, paper plates and cups, clothing and towels. The market for biodegradable household goods is growing fast and there are a number of various products currently being released. You can now find biodegradable plastics, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, cleaners, diapers, pet waste bags, trash bags and eating utensils. Nearly everything can now be made from renewable resources, and be bought at more competitive and cheaper prices.

3. Reusable Water Bottles Many water bottles are recycled, but most are not, leaving a huge carbon footprint. Eight out of ten plastic bottles in the U.S. are not recycled and end up in landfills. These bottles are made from non- renewable resources. The Earth Policy Institute says it takes about 15 million barrels of oil per year to create enough bottles to meet demand. The making of plastic bottles releases pollution into out air, soil, and water supply.

4. Unplug Appliances Many electronics still siphon energy even when they are not in use. Televisions, chargers, laptop, stereos, lights, and other household electronics can all be unplugged while they are not being used. You can also use a power strip from groups of electronics and switch it off when they are not being used.

5. Buy Organic & Local Foods There is a better chance food was grown in an eco-friendly way when you buy local. These foods are usually fresher, and are sold at a better price.
