3   Identify important terms on wind turbine energy.  Complete the Wind Turbine Energy Applications Terms and Definitions handout.  Work in groups of two. Warm-Up Activity Wind Turbine Energy Applications Terms 3 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. All rights reserved.

4   Wind turbine energy production has grown steadily in the past 10 years.  Wind farms use wind turbines to supplement the use of power grids. Overview 4 Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014. 5   Wind farms (large groups of wind turbines) produce energy and are connected to a power grid.  Wind turbine energy is used to supplement the traditional energy sources.  Wind energy cannot replace the energy produced by coal or nuclear plants. 8   As wind turns the wind turbine blades, the generator shaft revolves, and electricity is created.  Power cables in the tower are connected to the power grid.  The yaw drive assembly works with the wind vane to keep the blades turned into the oncoming wind. 9  Create a slide presentation to share with the class.  List companies that produce wind turbines.  Show photos and details of high paying jobs in the wind turbine technology career field.  Identify schools that train workers in wind turbine technology for jobs available in the foreseeable future.  Give examples of wind turbine applications.
