2. Bye Home Bruno, the main character in the book, lives in Berlin happily together with his family. But because his dad is one of the highest ranked commandants in the country, Bruno has to move to Auschwitz, for him a boring place far, far away from his old home. “”Am I being sent away?” ”No, not just you.”(JB 3)

3. The Sighting As Bruno looks the first time out of his new room’s window, he spots a huge fence far away from his house. He sees tons of people sitting there in striped pyjamas, wondering about their clothes. “He put his face to the glass and saw what was out there”(JB 21) and “Something made him feel very cold and unsafe” (JB 21). These two quotes show, how he looks over to the other side of the fence and sees people in striped pyjamas fall to the ground and being carried away.

4. The Exploration One day as his father is out working behind the mysterious fence and Bruno wonders what the fence is all about, so he starts walking along it. Soon he spots a dot, which turns into a blur, which turns into a boy. His name is Shmuel. The both talk and share information about them selves. “’I’ve been exploring 'he said. 'Have you? 'said the little boy.(JB 110) And soon the both become friends.

5. The Plan But a few months later Bruno’s parents decide it is finally time for the kids and mother to go back home to Berlin. Bruno and Shmuel meet again and talk about it and Shmuel tells Bruno that his father is lost since a couple of days. Suddenly Bruno has the idea to make another appointment and so the both would be at the side of the fence that Shmuel is on. And so the both would get to explore together to find Shmuel’s father. “It could be a great adventure” (JB 205)

6. Final meeting As Bruno walks behind the fence together with Shmuel, Bruno realizes how awful the life behind the other side of the fence was. “Shmuel gathered himself right next to Bruno and looked up to him in fright.” (JB 219)
