Advanced Next gEneration Mobile Open NEtwork Tridentcom 2008 4th International Conference on Testbeds and Research Infrastructures for the Development of Networks & Communities Demonstration of ANEMONE – An Advanced Next gEneration Mobile Open NEtwork 18 th March, 2008 László Bokor (goodzi@mcl.hu)

2 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Outline Motivation Objectives of the project Project information The ANEMONE architecture Contribution of partners Potential impacts How to join ANEMONE’s open architecture? Overview of the demonstration Demonstration setup

3 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Motivation In the near future, billions of fixed and mobile users will require reliable, ubiquitous and uninterrupted access to online services and content (Advanced Next gEneration Mobile Open NEtwork) A distributed & open IPv6 network aiming at hosting IETF 1 mobility protocols, third party research projects and pre- industrial initiatives Growing demand of mobility R&D community for a playground to evaluate and validate innovative complex applications, services and devices 1 Internet Engineering Task Force – Large and open community concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet

4 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Objectives of the project To set up a Pan-European open testbed offering state-of-the- art wireless access networks, mobility enablers, mobile devices and multimedia services To offer a viable alternative to the current necessity of large- scale testbeds for testing and validating the latest standards in wireless access technologies, communication protocols, applications and services To identify key components and major issues for mobility services deployment and to share our experiences on integration of IPv6 mobility into the Internet architecture To organize and leverage the evaluation of new mobility- related solutions and protocols at large scale To address real users presenting various profiles (e.g., researchers, students, man-on-the-street, etc.)

5 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Project information PARTNERS BME (Hungary) CRES (Italy) GET / ENST-Bretagne (France) INRIA (France) SFR (France) Thales Communications (France) - Coordinator VTT (Finland) ANEMONE Strategic objectives:6th Framework Program Research networking testbeds Project type:Strategic Targeted Research Project (STREP) Duration: 29 months (June 2006 – October 2008) Budget/EC Funding: 3 393 905€ / 1 900 000€ Contact person: Eric Robert (Thales Communications) coordinator@ist-anemone.eu Website: http://www.ist-anemone.eu

7 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Contributions of partners I. Laboratory UMTS/WiFi/Bluetooth access networks Researches on advanced IPv6 mobility (e.g. NEMO support in HIP, AAA) IPv6-based IMS services and applications Metropolitan WiFi and HiperLAN access networks in Monreale (Sicilie) Implementation of ANEMONE’s central addressing structure Researches and deployment of Voice over IPv6 Promotion and demonstration of the ANEMONE platform Researches on 4G architectures Deployment of Video on Demand applications Deployment of extensions of IPv6 mobility protocols

8 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Contributions of partners II. Campus-wide WiFi access networks Validation of the ANEMONE platform Adaptation of the platform for ITS usage Metropolitan IPv6/UMTS coverage in Rennes (Bretagne) Researches on trends of mobility market Project coordination Researches on security and reliability issues of IPv6 mobility Metropolitan WiFi coverage in Oulu (Finnland) Researches on mobile terminals and applications

9 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Potential impacts Why is ANEMONE important? It is the first Pan-European IPv6 mobility oriented testbed A full range of network types (Metro, Campus, Lab) will be offered and various user profiles (researcher, student, man-in-the-street) will be addressed Openness to third parties experiments is the very first design rule What is the ANEMONE impact? It is a proof-of-concept of near real-life testbed of advanced IPv6 mobility technologies The testbed serves the development of new services and businesses Such a large scale network contributes to the research in IPv6, wireless and mobile technologies It enforces the European position in dissemination activities and in major standardization bodies

10 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 How to join ANEMONE’s open architecture?

11 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Overview of the demonstration A developer company realizes that mobility tests are required before getting their product to the market SIP-based rich-call application for interactive movie ticket purchase The company contacts the ANEMONE team to conduct measurements on the testbed. Pre-defined admission process of administrative and technical tasks to obtain access to the ANEMONE testbed After joining ANEMONE, the company can do the experiments for validating the product on different end-terminals different access networks different mobility protocols … The results are analysed by the developers and the ANEMONE professionals, yielding better analysis Finally, the company has the experience what they should expect in a mobile environment

12 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Demonstration setup

13 ANEMONE Demonstration – Tridentcom 2008 – March 1 7 -20, 200 8 © ANEMONE consortium - 2008 Thank you for your attention!
