First step of building the outline Helps organize your thoughts Helps to determine what we need to research Helps to determine if we have enough or too much information in our three main divisions DO NOT WASTE TIME. We do this in class so you have less to do outside of class!

3 Exercise #1: Free Writing to Outline Step 1: Write down your three main divisions of the Body Mammoth Hot Springs HotelLake Hotel Old Faithful Inn Hotel

4 Step #2: Free-write underneath each main division. Write down whatever information you know about each sub-topic. DON’T WORRY ABOUT ORDER AT THIS POINT!

5 Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel Mammoth was originally Fort Yellowstone. Was an original tourist stop due to it’s proximity to the railroad in Gardiner Is actually the third Mammoth Hotel as the other two burned Has both hotel rooms and cabins Many of the buildings are part the original Fort. You can take a tour that will show you a variety of buildings and their uses. You can see the Superintendents house. You can even see the original jail. Lake Hotel Built in 1891 Renovated by Robert Reamer in 1903 Was built on a well-know meeting place for trappers and Indians Is believed to be haunted Underwent further renovation in the 1980’s Is hard to miss with it’s bright yellow exterior Is the only hotel in Yellowstone with a Presidential Suite Old Faithful Inn Hotel Built in the winter of 1903- 1904 Built by Robert Reamer He wanted the asymmetry of the hotel to reflect the chaos of nature. Lobby features a 65-foot ceiling Visitors could once watch Old Faithful erupt from the roof A new Visitors center was added last year Also believed to be haunted.

8 Step #4: Now take your organized free write and create a rough outline by deciding on the main points, sub-points, support etc.

Many of the buildings are part the original army barracks. a. You can take a tour that will show you a variety of buildings and their uses. i. You can see the Superintendents house. ii. You can even see the original jail. b. You could also discover the different buildings on your own. B. Mammoth was the original tourist stop due to its proximity to the railroad in Gardiner 1. The current Hotel is actually the third Mammoth Hotel as the other two burned. 2. The first and second hotels only offered rooms, although now you can stay in the hotel or one of the adjacent cabins.
