“ From the beginning, the theology of liberation posited that the first act is involvement in the liberation process, and that theology comes afterward, as a second act. The theological moment is one of critical reflection from within, and upon, concrete historical praxis, in confrontation with the world of the Lord as lived and accepted in faith.” - The Power of the Poor in History

Praxis -It is not simply action based on reflection. -These include a commitment to human well being and the search for truth, and respect for others. - Praxis is always risky (Carr and Kemmis 1986: 190). -We must begin to exist as active agents rather than passively accepting the conditions of oppression and exploitation that surround us.

Self development The more passive people are, the more they will adapt, the more their creativity will diminish and their naiveté increases. Creating consciousness of struggle by transforming reality and liberating himself from the oppression In the same way, when he acquires a new way of thinking, his understanding of the social status that he holds changes him.

Transformation of the society - creating awareness on the causes of poverty (“conscientization”), solidarity with the poor and exposing oppressive systems -the poor must be freed from economic, political, and social oppression. -encounter with God is open to all (Christians and non Christians) through one’s love of his or her neighbor “We find the Lord in our encounters with others, especially the poor, marginated, and exploited ones. An act of love towards them is an act of love towards God.”

Cultural Synthesis This synthesis attempts to overcome the antagonistic activities begun by the oppressors and goes deeper than mere induction. It addresses the strength of one's own culture as a creative act and vindicates the oppressed by providing a different vision of the world than the one which has been imposed without question or examination.
