4 Game plan for session Share why student self-assessment and technology integration is vital Provide examples of how self-assessment and technology can be built into K-12 lessons Listen to students as they practice and reflect on their learning Engage everyone in developing simple self- assessment tools and sharing different online tools Invite questions and exchanges within the session and beyond

5 Beliefs... It should be an integral part of learning, not an add-on. Self-assessment is a learnable skill. Technology can be integrated at different points in the Instructional Cycle

9 Gr. 1 – Japan and Hawaii Essential questions How are children in Japan like us in Hawaii? How are children in Japan different from us in Hawaii? Learn new facts about children in Japan from Discovery Learning, Safari Montage and Kids Web Japan. Complete a Venn diagram identifying one similarity and one difference between children in Japan and Hawaii. Use a checklist to assess what I did.

Search for information about a specific ecosystem in books, videos, and online sources. Record the information on a note-taking sheet. Create a slide for my class Voicethread project. Use a rubric to assess my Voicethread slide.

16 Gr. 4 – Ancient Hawaii Essential question What was Hawaii like in the past? Why? Search for information to our questions in books, photos, and online sources. Describe the way Hawaiians managed their natural resources through the Ahupuaa system. Create a digital poster with my information using Glogster Use a rubric to assess my digital poster.

18 Gr. 6 – Renaissance Essential questions What was the Renaissance? Who were some important people? What were some important events? What impact did it have on the development of the sciences and humanities and the voyages of exploration? Research an important figure from the Renaissance and explain that person’s accomplishments. Create a Facebook style webpage using information found from my research. Use a rubric to assess my webpage.

20 Secondary – Greening Our Community Essential questions What does greening a community involve? How green is our community at this time? How can we build a greener community? Research alternative ways to make a greener community. Create an infographic display for a Green Day celebration at our mall. Use a check-log to assess the graphs in our infographic displays.

22 Secondary - Cyberbullying Essential questions Why do teens engage in cyberbullying? How does it affect the victims? What can we do about it? Investigate how cyberbullying became a serious problem among teens. Create a podcast describing cyberbullying, its effects on the victims and ways to deal with it. Use a rating-log to assess my podcast.

24 Lessons we are learning Shift from a teacher-librarian focus to a student focus in assessment. Students become the experts in using technology as assessing their learning. Make sure that learning goals are clearly stated for everyone. Make sure that criteria to assess achievement of goals are clearly stated for everyone. Tweak assessment tools you already use. Use student-friendly language. Manage and plan when using technology tools with students. Keep assessments simple and do-able for you and the students.
