3 Curriculum and learning Subjects to be studied: English (literacy – text, sentence and word). Includes reading, writing, spelling, handwriting and speaking/listening (ESF Scope and Sequence documents) Mathematics (ESF Scope and Sequence documents)- Number, Measurement, Shape and Space, Problem Solving, re-visiting each topic each term) Refer to Year 6 Curriculum Newsletter on the school website

4 Curriculum and Learning (continued) Inquiry ( as per slide 8) incorporates social studies, science Music (Mr. Clothier) Mandarin (Ms. Wang, Ms. Huang, Ms. Xiang) PE (Ms. Farry) –Swimming program for Year 6 this year will be in Term 2

5 Timetable Written into diary every term Please bring reading books and diaries to school everyday

6 Homework After last year’s review, it has been decided that all classes will receive their homework every two weeks, beginning Monday 7 th Sept Reinforcement of class work Subjects may include Mathematics, English and Inquiry Reading 20 - 40 minutes daily

7 Rewards Each class has an established system for positive reinforcement of behaviour and effort

8 Units of Inquiry Sharing the Planet: The way we live impacts the global environment Who we are Personal well being is dependent on a complex balance of inter-connected factors How we express ourselves Cultural groups may vary in their customs and practices but reflect similar purposes How we organise ourselves Technology impacts on the systems used in the world of work and leisure How the world works – Cross-Phase Unit Where we are in place and time People and places have histories which can be uncovered through a variety of sources.

9 Educational Visits Camp (Outward Bound in Sai Kung) –14 th to 17 th December 2008

10 Uniform Please name every article of uniform Bradbury School hats are compulsory Bradbury School bags are compulsory No headscarves please Long hair to be tied back, especially for P.E Jewellery:Only permitted for religious reasons Studs only should be worn in pierced ears Please contact Mr. Marwick if in doubt

11 Health and Safety If your child has allergies or a serious medical condition, the class teacher must be informed Please take precautions against mosquitoes All medication must be administered by the school nurse (Ms. Lau)

12 Food (snack, lunches, drinks) Ensure child has enough water for the day, bring a reusable water bottle daily Best for snacks to be healthy to ensure children have enough energy – no gum please Nut-Free Zone (including Cake Sale)

13 Communication The majority of communication from the school will come via email If you have not been receiving emails from us, please let us know. Please ensure we have your current email address and that you have enough room in your inbox to receive our emails!
