2 Dilations In a dilation you are able to either reduce your object or enlarge it. If you dilate an object by 500% you will enlarge it because the 500% is actually 5 wholes and it is greater than one whole. Dilating your image by.5 will reduce your object because it is less than one whole.

3 Translations A translation is were you change your original coordinates by first moving your figure right or left.

4 Reflections A reflection is where you can flip your figure over the x-axis or the y-axis.

5 Enlargement In order to enlarge your figure you must have a scale factor greater than one. If you dilate an object by 500% you will enlarge it because the 500% is actually 5 wholes and it is greater than one whole.

6 Reductions In a reduction you have to have a scale factor less than one in order to reduce. Dilating your image by 0.5 will reduce your object because it is less than one whole.

7 How Perimeter is Affected The perimeter is affected the same as the scale factor ALWAYS! You would do your perimeter then you would say NO to oreos, and divide the new by original perimeters. It is easier to leave the new by old in a fraction when you divide.

8 How Area is Affected The area and scale factor will NEVER be the same as each other. You would say NO to oreos and divide new by original to get your answer. It is easier to leave your division as a fraction.

9 Illustration for Enlargement vs. Reduction 10 5 X=5 2.5 The scale factor is ½ because you would set your proportion up like so….. 10/5 = x/2.5. You would have to multiply the 10 by the ½ to get your answer which is X=5.

10 How 2D figures are changed for Area 10in. 5in. Area=50in. 2 Area=12.5in. 2 5in. 2.5in.

11 How 2D Figures are changed for Perimeter 12in. 10in. 5in. 6in. Perimeter=32in. Perimeter=16in. 5in. 10in.
