3 Application? What is an application? Is it the same as an app? Does it mean appetizer? NO!

4 So what is an application? Software that allows you to perform a task or job. Applications for desktops/laptops are sometimes called desktop applications Applications for mobile devices are usually called apps

5 Types of Applications Countless desktop/mobile applications but there are only 2 categories. 2-Categories Full-featured Gadget/Widget

6 Full-Featured Applications Perform many different tasks Examples: Microsoft Word Web Browser (Internet Explorer) Power Point Games Media Players

7 Gadgets/Widgets Perform only 1 or 2 jobs Clock/Calendar Taskbar Calculator Start Menu

8 Commands A command tells an application to perform a task. Siri is an example of an application. “Siri find me a good restaurant.” This is an example of a command. Microsoft Office products have several commands.

9 Microsoft Commands Common application commands File Menu Save Save As Open Close

10 Your Turn You will complete an activity that let’s you explore the basic commands of Microsoft Word. You will now complete 1.2A Basic Commands.
